The Hit Drama Announced for Seventh Series on BBC
The beloved crime series AC-12 will make a comeback for its seventh installment, confirmed by the BBC.
A brand new six-episode season written by Jed Mercurio will begin filming in Belfast this spring, as confirmed by the production team.
The actress shared her enthusiasm about the return, stating she was "so excited" about the series' return. Adrian Dunbar remarked, "What a joy it is to know that the main trio will be back filming together soon."
The last series concluded in recent years with a finale that attracted over 17 million viewers. Speculation about a potential return have been widespread ever since, but confirmation only came this week.
Fresh Obstacles for AC-12
Series seven will open with AC-12 no longer existing and renamed as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, according to the announcement.
Martin Compston's character, Vicky McClure's role, and Ted Hastings remain working to combat corruption within the law enforcement.
Their work "faces unprecedented challenges", and under these circumstances, these officers will take on their "most delicate case so far."
Fresh Face and Intricate Plot
An additional officer, Det Insp Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charming officer known for busts of criminal networks, faces allegations of misusing his authority to act as a offender.
However, this investigation might serve as a intentional diversion from a bigger threat still operating in the shadows, plot details suggested.
In a statement, the creator said: "Everyone involved feels enormous gratitude to the show's fans."
"We're privileged to have had so many followers track the ups and downs of AC-12 over six previous seasons and we are thrilled to be coming back for a new installment."
He added: "Misconduct in this country was thought to be over while the series was not airing, so I've been forced to use my creativity."
Cast Reactions
The Scottish actor described appearing in the police drama as "the role of a career".
"Not only the program's popularity but the colleagues I've collaborated with I now call dear friends."
"I can't wait to pull the waistcoat on again and get the team back together," he said.
The Nottingham-born actress stated: "It goes without saying I'm so excited the show is back! Eager to work with the creator, Martin and Dunbar again. Belfast, we'll be there shortly!"
Adrian Dunbar commented: "While anticipating the unit days of Christmas, how exciting it is to know that the central trio will be working together next year."
"Pleased with the news and looking forward to those mercurial plot developments."
Series Legacy
Line of Duty premiered in the early 2010s and became a highly successful television series of the past ten years, featuring guest stars such as Lennie James.
The BBC has not yet announced when the new season will hit screens.
The finale of series six drew the long-running storyline about the hunt for kingpin known as "the mysterious H" to a close, and producers said at the moment there were no intentions for further series.
Nevertheless, the corporation confirmed on Tuesday that a new season is now being produced.
