The New Animated Series' Opening Sequence Selected the Wrong Critical Role Track

The Mighty Nein, the newest animated series by the beloved role-playing group, revealed an exciting introductory sequence. It showcases the beloved cast of misfits, outcasts, and rogues kicking ass and taking names, while teasing at multiple agonizing backstories for key figures including Liam O'Brien's mage Caleb, and Travis Willingham's warlock orc, the character Fjord.

Overall, the intro looks stunning. However, I felt that an element was missing in the music selection.

The intro employs "Welcome to the Continent", an exceptional composition composed by artist the talented musician. This piece originating from the official score of that title, the second release released by the production company's music division their music brand. It's a wonderful nostalgic option, and I suspect that fans of the sequel series will appreciate its inclusion.

Personally, The Mighty Nein's opening doesn't quite capture the hype and excitement that accompanied the show's live-play sessions. "Your Turn to Roll", composed by singer-songwriter the artist, was an instant classic for me when it was initially unveiled in 2015, and it improved further when co-founder Sam Riegel wrote words to the melody for the animated Campaign 2 opening in 2018.

Featuring vocals from one actress, Laura Bailey, a co-star, as well as Riegel himself, the song was memorable and fun. Back then, I hadn't seen the follow-up series yet, but it was so infectious that I still saved it on my phone. This track that knows how to get you pumped before you dive into an installment of adventurous fun.

The show's opening with "the new song" fails to hit the same chords for me. It's a grand composition, but from what I know of this party, I feel that its mood is somewhat mismatched.

Of course, the creators has stated that the series will have a few surprises and variations from the original live sessions. An adjusted mood for its opening appears as among these.

This animated adventure will be available to watch on the streaming service from Nov. 19. If you can't wait before that, or wish to prepare to get to know the personas of Critical Role's Campaign 2, the original episodes are accessible on Spotify and the video site.
